Then and Now: My Art Journey

To a lot of folks in the creative world, the term "artist" is terrifying and unachievable! Many of you might think, "Who am I to call myself an artist?" just because you didn’t stroll through art school or have a gallery showcasing your masterpieces. Well, guess what? I was in that boat too! For years, I let that mindset keep my art in the "just a hobby" phase.

But then it hit me—being an artist isn’t about fancy degrees or fat paychecks; it's all about letting your creativity free and forging connections with others! Every brushstroke, doodle, or poem you create is a testament to your unique perspective, and that’s the real magic!

Embrace your passion and let go of the fear of judgment. Show off your creations to friends, family, or even those awesome online communities ready to cheer you on. And hey, remember that every artist's path is unique, and that's what makes the art scene a fabulous tapestry of creativity!

The Journey

I never set foot in art school, but that didn’t stop me from creating! in the spring of 2014, I created my first mixed media piece—though, truth be told, it’s a total blur now! Armed with fresh supplies and a burning curiosity, I dove headfirst into the colorful chaos, and boy, did I have a blast!

Each creation was a step forward, a lesson in the joy of making art without boundaries. I soaked up inspiration from everywhere, but nature’s beauty was my biggest muse.

My art has come a long way since those early days! I've shown my art at markets, dazzled gallery-goers, and even made magazine appearances. But when I reminisce about my humble beginnings, it feels just like yesterday! I can still see myself diving into new supplies with excitement, experimenting with techniques, and turning everyday household items into my artistic playground.

I was totally new to this, but that wasn't about to hold me back! My inner artist had been on lockdown since childhood, and she was ready to break free! Creativity was calling and my heart answered.

Like many other creatives, I kicked off my creative journey in the dining room with supplies spread all around.

As the years flew by, my style transformed becoming more refined while holding onto the untamed spirit that ignited my creative fire! I discovered that art isn’t just about the final piece; it’s really about the messy, glorious journey and letting my true self shine without a rulebook. It taught me that creativity has no rules, only endless possibilities.

With a bit of time, tons of practice, and a whole lot of passion, I transformed from a nervous, hobbyist who hardly knew herself to a full-on, self-declared artist, fully embracing my artistic journey! I’m beyond thankful my artistic spirit didn’t give up; the joy of art in my life now is simply priceless!

That’s why I absolutely adore spreading the creative love and helping fellow artists unleash their unique voice! I share tons of free YouTube videos to spark your inspiration, along with awesome online workshops where we can team up, uplift each other, and create some stunning art together!

Before you go, I'd love to hear your story. When did YOU start your artist journey? Were you doodling masterpieces in crayon as a kiddo, or did the art bug bite you later on? Have you had your fair share of rollercoaster moments along the way?

Please share your journey in a comment!
