I absolutely love creating colorful mixed media artwork but haven’t used any distress inks since all mine burned up in the 2020 fire. I finally bit the bullet and bought a bunch of the Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Oxide inks for this piece. I’m loving how vibrant it turned out and remembered why I fell in love with distress inks in the first place, they are so much fun! I even went so far as to use the rainstorm we were having at the time to create all my water spots.

Supplies:

Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Oxide inks (5-6 colors)

Applicator tool with pads

Spray bottle with water

Paint pens or acrylic paint

Mixed media paper

  1. Use the blending tool to spread oxide colors randomly directly onto the paper.

  2. Spray the paper with as much or as little water as you want.

  3. Use a dust free rag to soak up any extra water you don’t want.

  4. Dry completely.

  5. Draw or paint your branches onto the paper.

  6. Draw or paint leaves and birds.

  7. Add fine details with a white paint pen or acrylic.

Happy crafting!
