Did you know that plastic bottles require up to 450 years to dissolve and that 38 million plastic bottles go to landfill each year instead of being recycled, that’s in America alone. Those are some pretty horrifying numbers wouldn’t you agree?

I personally try really hard not to use plastic bottles of any kind but when I get one, I make sure that it gets new life instead of ending up as another statistic. You can make so many amazing things from a simple plastic water bottle. These fun little butterflies are great for wall decor or adding a personalized touch to gift wrapping and they’re 100% customizable.

Supplies:

Plastic bottle

Precision scissors

Enamel paints or nail polish

Sealer

Stamp

Staz-on ink

  1. Remove any labels and residue.

  2. Cut off the top and bottom of the bottle.

  3. Cut the remaining portion of bottle open so you can use it.

  4. Stamp your image onto the plastic. Using Staz-on guarantees it won’t smudge.

  5. Paint your image and let dry completely.

  6. Cut out your image.

  7. Add a coat or two of sealer over the paint and let dry completely.

Now you have fun embellishments you can use on anything you’d like. You can turn them into earrings or charms for a bracelet, glue them to a mixed media canvas or put them on cards. The possibilities are endless.

Happy crafting,
