DIY Winter Woods Canvas
  1. Paint the canvas metallic sliver.

  2. Cut two 1 1/2"x18” pieces of tissue paper.

  3. Cut one 2x18” piece of tissue paper.

  4. Cut one 2 1/2x18” piece of tissue paper.

  5. Use the gel medium and foam brush to adhere the two smallest pieces of tissue paper to the canvas, vertically down opposite sides. Make sure to scrunch the tissue paper horizontally while gluing, this forms texture “ridges” for your trees.

  6. Use the gel medium and foam brush to adhere the medium piece of tissue paper to the canvas, vertically next to the tree on the right. Make sure to scrunch the tissue paper horizontally while gluing, this forms texture ridges for your tree.

  7. Use the gel medium and foam brush to adhere the largest piece of tissue paper to the canvas, vertically next to the tree on the left. Make sure to scrunch the tissue paper horizontally while gluing, this forms texture ridges for your tree.

  8. Spread a thin layer of gel medium over all trees so all tissue paper is secure and let dry completely.

  9. Paint each tree metallic white and let dry.

  10. Mix a tiny amount of brown with some metallic white paint. Your paint should mostly be white with a soft brown tint.

  11. Paint down the left edge of each tree with the soft metallic brown you just mixed, creating a shadow effect. Let dry.

  12. Continuing with the metallic brown, paint over each horizontal tissue paper “ridge” on all trees. This helps create more texture and depth. Let dry.

  13. Mix a little more brown into your soft metallic brown paint. Your paint should now be a soft brown color.

  14. Use this darker brown paint to draw branches and let dry.

  15. Punch 4- 1” circles of red cardstock.

  16. Punch 3- 3/4” circles of red cardstock.

  17. Punch 1- 1/2” circle of red cardstock.

  18. Paint small white “shine” marks on the tops of all your red circles.

  19. Arrange your red ornaments onto the canvas underneath your branches and glue in place.

  20. Use a black paint marker to draw strings from the ornaments to the branches so they look like they are hanging.

  21. Draw two Chickadee birds and cut out.

  22. Adhere the Chickadees onto one of the branches.

  23. Cut 13- 1/2x2” leaves out of green cardstock.

  24. Fold each leaf in half lengthwise.

  25. Carefully cut the unfolded edge of each leaf at 1/8” intervals without cutting the folded seam. This adds dimension and texture to the canvas.

  26. Open up each leaf and arrange onto the branches. Glue in place.

  27. Adhere snowflake glitter onto the canvas as desired.

  28. If desired, draw a black edge around all ornaments, down the edges of all trees and around the Chickadees to sharpen the image.
