There’s something so fun and satisfying about playing with paints and modeling paste. They can create so much lush texture and are perfect for making easy mixed media backgrounds perfect for any piece of art.
This mini mixed media canvas is so simple and easy you can create it in just a few hours with minimal supplies. Give it a try today!
Supplies:
Cardboard
3-4 acrylic paint colors
Pallet knife
Cardstock
Glue
Sharpie
Utility knife
Heat gun or blow dryer
Paper towels
Cut a 5x5” square of cardboard
Mix a small amount of each of your acrylics with a small amount of modeling paste. Remember, the modeling paste is white and will dilute the color a bit.
Smear some of your first color randomly over the canvas with the pallet knife.
Use the heat gun to dry the paint/modeling paste almost completely. Leaving it a little wet allows some of the colors to blend together.
Repeat steps 3-4 with each of the remaining colors until the cardboard is completely covered and you’re happy with the layering.
Cut out a 4x4” cardstock heart.
Adhere the heart to the center of the cardboard.
Run the side of a soft pastel over the heart to give it some texture, then lightly run a piece of paper towel over it to remove excess.
Trace the heart and the outside edge of the cardboard with a black pastel, then smudge the black with your finger to blend.
Cut a 1x3” cardstock rectangle.
Run the sharpie along the edges of the rectangle to create a boarder.
Adhere the cardstock rectangle over the heart.
Hand-write (or stamp) your phrase into the rectangle.
Use the gel pen to create details on your tag and in the heart if desired.
