Egg Carton Banner Tutorial

The world is full of mass consumption and every day millions of useable items find their way into our landfills. Upcycling is a fantastic way to do our parts and make the world a better place one project at a time.

Upcycling can be quite a challenge sometimes but it's one I gladly rise to as often as I'm able. It allows me to search inside myself and reach for imagination and creativity outside the norm of everyday thinking. Seeing the results of that creativity as something old becomes something new and one item changes to another brings me so much satisfaction.

egg carton banners

Projects don't have to be complicated, expensive or take months to complete. This colorful egg carton banner, for example only took me 2 hours. I used those purple egg cartons that come from Walmart for my banner, cutting each "cup" into individual pieces. Then I trimmed down the edges to give it a more petal like feel.

You'll want to cut each "cup" down to the center so there are four individual petals on each. Using a light blue acrylic I painted only the inside of my flowers so they'd be two-toned. Once they are dry simply layer them together to create your flowers. I used a paint brush to curl the edges of each petal and added a rhinestone in the center.

Now, find that perfect ribbon or cord to complete your look and cut a length long enough to hold all of your lovely little flowers. I added colorful ribbon tassels to my banner by simply tying the ribbons around my cord. From here I used my trusty hot glue gun to secure my flowers on top of my ribbon tassels. It's that easy!

Happy Crafting!
