Looking for a fun, creative gift for all the plant lovers on your list? Well look no further! This adorable mini plant dangler is perfect. Designed to be totally versatile it can be used as a car mirror dangler, a keychain or if you make two, they make adorable earrings.

Below you’ll learn how to create leaves and work with jump rings and chain to create a fun dangling effect and create this cute “hanging plant”.

Supplies:

Oven bake clay: green, brown and white

Small chain

Jump rings

Potter’s Needle or paper piercer

Eye pins

Utility knife

Mini silicone leaf mold

  1. Roll the white clay into a 1/2” ball.

  2. Flaten the ball, keeping 1/8” thickness.

  3. Place your finger in the center of the clay and press the edges up around your finger.

  4. Use your fingers to smooth the clay out until you have a nice cylinder pot.

  5. Carefully remove from your finger and cut down to 1/2”.

  6. Smooth any edges and set aside.

  7. Roll the brown clay into a 1/2” ball.

  8. Press the brown ball gently into the white pot.

  9. Use a headpin to poke 5 tiny holes into the brown clay, one in the center and four evenly space around the edge. Set aside.

  10. Create 14 mini leaves by pressing small pieces of green clay into the leaf mold. Remove carefully.

  11. Poke a small hole in the top of each leaf.

  12. Bake all clay according to clay instructions and let cool.

  13. Cut two 4” lengths of chain, connect an eye pin to the top of each.

  14. Cut two 3" lengths of chain, connect an eye pin to the top of each.

  15. Cut a 5" length of chain, connect an eye pin to one end with a jump ring. Size of this chain will vary depending on what you are creating: earrings, dangler, etc.

  16. Connect a jump ring to each leaf.

  17. Connect a leaf to the end of each 3” and 4” chain with the jump ring.

  18. Connect three more leaves to each 4” chain with the jump ring, spacing about an inch apart.

  19. Connect two more leaves to each 3” chain with the jump ring, spacing about an inch apart.

  20. Insert the four eye pins into the holes you made in the brown clay. Make sure you space them long, short, long, short. This gives even distribution of leaves.

  21. Insert the last eye pin into the middle hole you made. How you “finish” the end of this chain will depend on what you are creating: earrings, dangler, etc.
