Upcycled Lamp Tutorial

I found this lamp at a yard sale a couple of years ago for only $5. We were in desperate need of a lamp since the lighting in my apartment sucks so I brought it home even though it wasn't a great match for the décor.

I've been meaning to "upgrade" it since it walked in the door but just haven't found the time to make it happen. Since my apartment's no longer bringing me joy and the need for change has been weighing heavily on my heart, I've been feeling seriously out of sorts lately.

With that being said I decided on a super simple project to kick start my spring transformation, the lamp! A fresh coat of paint and a new handmade lampshade was all it took to make it fit right in with the rest of the décor.

The first thing you want to do is strip off the existing lampshade. This one was super easy, all I had to do was find the right corner and pull it off. I kept the pattern in tact and used it to sketch out a new pattern on my fabric.

Once your new pattern is cut out, lay your lampshade down on top of it at one end. Begin by gluing (I used my hot glue gun) down one side of the lampshade. Continue to glue around the base of the lampshade making sure the fabric is nice and tight.

When you reach the other edge leave it loose and being gluing down the top edge of the lampshade. To finish, fold the remaining edge over to create a clean seam and glue it onto the original edge.

Now paint the lamp your chosen color. Depending on your desired look it may need a few coats with dry time in between.

There it is, a brand new look. So simple right!

Fabric

Lamp with lampshade.

Scissors

Glue (fabric or hot glue)

Pen/pencil

Paint brush

Paint (I use DecoArt AmericanaDECOR Satin Enamels)
