DIY Seed Pod Earrings Tutorial
Mother Nature is simply amazing and such a creative inspiration for me.
Every year our garden explodes with vibrant, beautiful poppies and every year I’m saddened when fall takes them back. To counter this loss of lovely color I started collecting the intricate seed pods after we’ve harvested all the seeds.
I knew someday inspiration would strike and I’d find a way to create something beautiful with them. Now I restore beautiful color to these treasured flowers and wear them any time I like. It’s a fabulous way to showcase Mother Nature’s natural beauty.
What you’ll need:
Dried poppy seed pods
Scissors
Alcohol inks
Eye pins
Earring fishhooks
E6000 or jewelry glue
Resin or other sealer
Two small pairs of needle nose pliers
Wax paper
Detail paint brush (optional)
Acrylic paint (optional)
Before starting, make sure the seed pods are completely dried and empty of all seeds.
Cut the stems off right below the pod joints.
Place a piece of wax paper on the table and place the pods on it. Make sure they are standing upright on their heads- the open part of the flower opposite the stem joint.
Drip the alcohol inks over the stem joints and let it run down the pods. Continue dripping inks until you are happy with the look.
Let the inks dry completely before handling.
If you’d like, paint the stem joints and heads of the pods. Let dry completely.
Poke a small hole through the stem joint and glue the eye pins into the pods.
Seal the pods and let dry completely.
Attach the fishhooks to the eye pins.
Happy Crafting,
Misty
