Ready to add some fun new designs to your jewelry collection? Today we’re going to dive into upcycling and I’ll show you how to make simple and unique earrings, necklaces, or keychains from your old jeans.

I absolutely love the endless possibilities upcycling gives you. Whether you’re creating jewelry, like today’s project, making art, or some kind of fun decor, upcycling doesn’t have to be hard, complicated, or expensive. If you haven’t started your upcycling journey yet, do it today! I promise you will never regret it.

Supplies:

Old denim pre-sewn hem, like the hem of jean legs or jacket arm sleeves

Fabric scissors

Hot glue or quick drying fabric glue

Jewelry wire

Jewelry pliers

Jewelry round nose pliers

Earring fishhook

  1. Cut a 4-6” piece of hem. The size will determine how large (and heavy) your earrings are.

  2. Starting from one end of the hem, roll the hem into a circle.

  3. Use a small amount of close to adhere the end of the hem to the rest of the circle. If desired, you can also glue as you roll for more security.

  4. Cut a length of wire long enough to go round your denim roll with an extra added inch.

  5. Starting at one end of the wire, create a small circle/loop.

  6. Leave a small 1/8” to 1/4” straight space on your wire, then wrap the rest tightly around the denim roll.

  7. Wrap the remining wire tightly around the 1/8” to 1/4” straight space you left three to four times.

  8. Remove any remaining wire.

  9. Attach the fishhook to the small wire circle/loop you made.
