Poppy Fields Canvas Tutorial

Fearless is definitely a word in my crafting vocabulary. I LOVE trying out new crafting techniques and fear never comes to mind. It doesn't matter if I know how to do it or not. Sometimes I have no clue what I'm doing but I can't get an idea out of my head and have to make it happen.

Sometimes it's trial and error. Other times it just works. When it comes to art there's no right or wrong and if I don't like something I just start over.

With Blue Poppy Day right around the corner I decided to make some new canvases. I call this one Poppy Fields.

1. Start by spraying your background any way you want. I used my Dylusions Fresh Lime and my Recollections Yellow Shimmer spray inks.

2. Let the canvas dry for 20-30 minutes. Because this canvas is pre-treated I used a tissue to blot some of the thicker spots and help "blend" the colors after the canvas was partially dried.

3. Let the canvas dry another 30 minutes.

4. Once the canvas is completely dry use a pencil and super light strokes to sketch your flowers (or other image) onto the canvas.

5. Let's add in some color! Using my Dylusions London Blue and a paint brush I began painting all my flowers. I love how this technique gave the canvas a watercolor feel. Be sure to give your layers a few minutes of dry time in between for best results.

6. Again using my paint brush and Dylusions Fresh Lime, I colored in all of my stems. Because the color was so light and matched the background, I had to go over it several times before I was happy with the look.

7. After everything has dried completely use black acrylic and a detail brush (or a pen if you prefer) to add in all your lines and details.

8. The last step for this lovely canvas was to add in the details around the center using Goldenrod acrylic.

What you need:

3-4 spray ink colors

Canvas

Paint brush

Fine detail paint brush

Tissue

1-2 colors of acrylic paint

Black acrylic paint

Though I've never used my spray inks this way, I absolutely love how it turned out!!!
