Fast Fixes to Spark Creativity

It's easy for creativity to get shoved to the back burner and left to simmer until one day you look and it's all gone.

Yeah, life gets hectic and things don't always go the way you want but your creativity is a lifeline, it's a window to your soul, it's healing and happiness.

Luckily for you, there's plenty of ways it can be revived.

1. Start up a conversation

Other's have a different perspective than you do and talking to them is a quick and easy way to spark new ideas. Even random conversations about seemingly useless topics can impact your creativity in ways you can't even imaging.

2. Notice the little things

You don't have to travel the world to be creatively inspired. That new park or restaurant you've been dying to try can be just as inspiring as a trip to Rome and far easier on your bank account. Take note of the trivial things around you in your day to day life, they may spark the biggest flames.

3. Travel

That trip to Rome is starting to sound pretty good isn't it? There's no doubt that visiting new places offers extraordinary inspiration. The world, or even the neighboring town, is full of inspiration just waiting to spark new ideas. So get going, see where you wind up and let wonder find you.

4. Examine your dreams

Dreams can set you free and many artists use them to spark creativity. Keeping a dream journal full of images and feelings you experienced can lead you in directions you never (consciously) thought of.

5. Read, listen, see

Reading is an amazing way to spark creativity. Whether it's a novel, comic, short story or biography there are countless books to explore. They can take you to places beyond your wildest dreams or immerse you in situations you never thought were possible. If reading really isn't your thing, linger over the photos (they say a picture is worth a thousand words), or pick up an audio book and simply listen.

6. Dare to explore

View everything with childlike wonder. Ignore preconceptions and just jump into things you would never do. Be bold and leave your comfort zone behind you. You'll be surprised how much inspiration and freedom this gives you.

7. Network Within your art community

The isolation many creatives spend their days in can cause a temporary lack of inspiration but is easy to fix by simply getting out there and meeting other creatives. Visit gallery openings or craft fairs, find new art groups or visit creative blogs. Talk creativity, breathe creativity, be creative.

8. Take a field trip

You remember field trips right? Weren't they fun and amazing! Gather up some creative friends and venture to a new gallery showing, explore a new museum, grab some pencils/watercolors and head to an awe-inspiring location for some R&R/impromptu creative workshops. The possibilities are endless.

9. Play and have fun

Sometimes being around kids is all you need to bring out your inner child. Play, have fun and see the world through their eyes.

10. Take a class

By far one of the easiest ways to inspire creativity is to learn something new or how to improve something you're already doing. Mix it up, get messy, try something you may hate. Point is go out there and give it a try.

11. Participate in art challenges

Not only is this a great way to inspire creativity but it challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, make new friends, present yourself to the world and opens you up to constructive comments that will help you grow.

12. Find inspiration online

There are dozens of websites out there to pull inspiration from including Pinterest or Instagram. A quick internet search will point you in the right direction but be sure not to get sucked down the rabbit hole and forget to create.
