A Step Away
I'm sure you've noticed a theme with my last few posts and as you can probably tell my 9-5 job has been going all kinds of crazy the last couple of weeks (and no not in a good way).
An already stressful situation is only getting worse. With that stress comes a greater need to step away and find my zen and place of peace. So this week I decided it'd be a great time to share a couple of my favorite hideaways.
Whenever I step foot on either of these properties my stress, problems and everything else life is throwing at me vanish almost instantly. These two places bring such peace to my heart, soul and mind; it's nearly impossible to stay upset and the world (and all it's problems) just falls away.
The first place is Dumas Bay Centre located here in Federal Way. I am incredibly lucky that it's only a 5 minute drive from my house. This gorgeous property was run as a convent and women’s retreat center for nearly 40 years before the City of Federal Way purchased the it in 1993.
Now you can stroll 12 acres showcasing nature, beauty and serenity. It offers views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains, an outdoor sculpture garden, flower garden, charming gazebo and plenty of lush green grass perfect for picnicking or simply relaxing.
The best part of about it is that 9 out of 10 times (especially during the week) you get the whole place all to yourself.
The second place is the old Federal Way Weyerhaeuser Campus or the Greenline building (located at 33663 Weyerhaeuser Way S. Federal Way, Washington 98001).
The building itself is absolutely spectacular with ivy covered rooftop terraces. It was one of the first green roof applications in the Pacific Northwest and one of the first open landscape office designs in the United States.
Sadly the campus has since closed down and the future of this amazing area is uncertain. If you've never been I highly recommend a trip. You will be awestruck by the grandeur and natural simplicity of the building. The area also as a quite little lake you can wander around, a massive field of lupines in the spring and trails throughout the 425 acre property.
It's easy to find peace and solitude among the towering trees and this abandoned piece of history.
