8 Things to do in Port Townsend, WA
Whether you're new to the area or a seasoned visitor, like me, there's something for everyone to enjoy in Port Townsend. Its old fashion charm and abundance of history make it a must for everyone's travel list.
So pack up the family and head on over, I promise you won't be disappointed.
1. Explore Fort Worden; it’s by far my FAVORITE place in Port Townsend! Bring a flashlight or brave the dark of the Kenzie Battery hallways. Explore Artillery Hill to reveal hidden gun emplacements. Snap of few photos of Alexander's Castle. Stroll the 2 mile beachfront for spectacular views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier. Visit the 104 year old Point Wilson Lighthouse but make sure to keep your eyes on the water; I've seen sea otters, seals and orca in the area.
2. Take a self guided tour of the Palace Hotel, you’ll step right back into the 1925 “Palace of Sweets” brothel that was once housed in the hotel.
3. Catch sunrise or sunset over the water at Bayview Restaurant while enjoying yummy food and an excellent view.
4. Visit the 127 year old, Romanesque style Jefferson County Courthouse. The building itself is gorgeous and makes for great photos.
5. Spend a couple of hours strolling the historic waterfront between Water St. and Washington St. for an eclectic shopping and dinning experience. Some of my favorite shops are Forest Gems Gallery, The Wandering Wardrobe, Port Townsend Antique Mall, Bergstrom's Antique & Classic Autos, Silverwater Café, Nifty Fiftys, Conservatory Coastal Home and Phoenix Rising.
6. Though I’m not a fan of their prices Vintage Hardware has an almost museum like feel to it with plenty of merchandise that’s worth taking a look at.
7. Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park is a great place to step away from the hustle and bustle of town for a picnic or walk around the wetlands and lagoon.
8. Manresa Castle is another great photo op for anyone who loves old architecture.
'Til next time,
Misty
